Board Proposes Legislation
At its September 22, 2006, meeting, the Board decided to pursue legislative changes to the fingerprint clearance card system. Between now and October 16, 2006, the Board will be accepting comments from the public about the legislative proposal.
The proposed changes would add 21 new offenses to the list of crimes that cause the denial or suspension of a fingerprint clearance card. Seven of the crimes would make the applicant ineligible to request a good cause exception from the Board. Examples of these newly proposed, nonappealable crimes are sexual abuse and luring a minor for sexual exploitation. Fourteen of the crimes would be appealable offenses, where the applicant could request a good cause exception from the Board. Examples of these appealable crimes are taking identity of another person or entity and welfare fraud.
